Liverpool have started their 24/25 season perfectly under their newly appointed manager Arne Slot. Winning five games out of six, The Reds are now top of the Premier League with only one point more than Manchester City in the second place and Arsenal in the third.
In the recent match against Wolves on Saturday, Liverpool won 2-1 with the goals of Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah. The most impactful player during the game was Ryan Gravenberch, who received his second ‘Player of the Match award’ after the final whistle. The first one came in the first match of the UEFA Champions League campaign, where the Reds won 3-1 in San Siro against the Serie A side AC Milan.
Due to his amazing improvement and brilliant performances under Slot, Ryan Gravenberch has been praised by Liverpool’s skipper Virgil van Dijk who has a lot of advice for the 22-year-old.
Speaking to the media, the Red’s captain said that Gravenberch is playing with a lot of confidence every match when he has the ball on his feet but the same goes even when the ball is not around him. Ryan has become a very important player for the team and playing alongside two quality midfielders like Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister makes it even easier for the Dutchman to show amazing performances each game.
Virgil continued saying that Gravenberch has not had a lot of injuries during his career and he hopes it goes like this for a long time. He feels that the new triangle of the three starting midfielders is working really well under Arne Slot and this will be a major help in the league race.
One piece of advice that the captain would give to his teammate would be to stay fit and keep going no matter what he hears, hoping that Gravenberch won’t listen that much to the praise he is getting for the moment from the media and the fans. He has to stay calm and show on the pitch his qualities more and more each game.
Van Dijk even had some words on his center-back partner Ibrahima Konate, who scored an important goal to give his team the lead against Wolves. He feels that the Frenchman is a fantastic player with a lot of qualities who can still do better from his small mistakes and the competition with Jarell Quansah for the center-back position, will be a huge boost for the improvement of both players.
Virgil wants every single player on the team to stay focused because it’s still early and it will be a long journey until the end of the season. Next for Liverpool is the second match of the Champions League against Bologna which will be played in Anfield on Wednesday at 20:00 UK Time.
The Reds for now are placed 7th in the new Champions League format as they expect to go higher in the mid week.
