Dominik Szoboszlai has once again shown the football world his importance in Hungary’s national team in yesterday’s match against Germany in the Nations League, which ended 1-1 after the last-minute penalty goal by Liverpool’s number eight.
This match was not the best for Hungary if we compare the stats with Germany, who had 71% ball possession during the match. The away team was more threatening in the attacking part and later they got awarded when Dortmund’s midfielder Felix Nmecha scored in the 76th minute to give his country the lead from an assist of Nico Schlotterbeck.
Later in the last minutes of the match, Germany’s defender Robin Koch caused a handball inside the box, which the referee judged to be a penalty for Hungary after the VAR review.
Hungary’s captain stepped up to take the penalty and converted it into a goal with a Panenka which is a rare thing to do, especially in a moment like that.
With the late equalizer, Hungary was able to receive a point in their home which keeps them third in League A with six points. Germany secures first place with 14 points, leaving the Netherlands second with nine points after drawing against Bosnia & Herzegovina.
On the other hand, Dominik Szoboszlai is not having the best season under the newly appointed manager of Liverpool, Arne Slot. The 24-year-old is struggling to find his perfect form, deciding the Dutch manager left him on the bench in the two last matches against Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen.
The midfielder is yet to score in the Premier League, having only one goal in the first Champions League in the 3-1 win against AC Milan in San Siro. He also has provided only two assists for his teammates, which shows that he needs to improve if he wants to be a regular starter for Liverpool.
Szoboslzai joined Liverpool in 2023 from RB Leipzig for £60m, and since then the player has started in the majority of the matches under Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot. Last season the midfielder scored seven goals and provided four assists in 45 matches for the Reds.
November’s international break is almost over and Liverpool’s next challenge is against Southampton on Sunday. Arne Slot boys are once again ready to keep their perfect form alive and this tough schedule will be important to the club’s season success.
