Martin Zubimendi was on the edge of joining the Premier League side, Liverpool this summer but the deal was not completed after Real Sociedad and their player changed their mind for the transfer.
When everyone thought the deal was nearly done, even the Reds manager himself Arne Slot who confirmed that the signing of Zubimendi was happening, the player chose to stay at his boyhood club and built his legacy there.
Liverpool hit Real Sociedad with a major deal of 51 million pounds for his release, but the player who spent more than a decade at the youth academy wasn’t convinced enough for the move to happen. But the rejection didn’t hurt Liverpool that much because their last season signing Ryan Gravenberch has started his season in the perfect way and he is impressing every football fan with his potential to play as a defending midfielder.
Since the start of the season, Ryan Gravenberch has put on a brilliant performance in his five games with the team. Man of the match in the last Champions League game against AC Milan and one of the best midfielders in the Premier League in his four start, has convinced Arne Slot enough to put the trust on him for the rest of the season.
Lately, some rumors have been out that Martin Zubimendi has regretted his decision not to join the Reds this summer after a terrible start of Real Sociedad in La Liga. Four losses, one draw, and one 1-0 win against Espanyol were not the start that the club was expecting after reaching the sixth position in La Liga last season.
But the rumors went down immediately after the famous reporter Mikel Recalde declined that the player has still interest on joining the English side.
He said that it’s still early and the poor performances of the team won’t affect his decision since Real Sociedad is the club of his life and he played there the whole career.
He continued by saying that the season has just started and it will be a different situation next summer, but for now, the player feels comfortable in his club and there is no pressure on him.
Even Martin Zubimendi decided to speak to the media and confirm that there is no regret in his decision and he will continue to play and fight for the badge.
He said that Real Sociedad is his life and he feels that now Sociedad is part of him which he could not lose.
