Rodri suffered an injury only 16 minutes into the latest 2-2 draw against Arsenal after a tackle from Gunner’s midfielder Thomas Partey who left him down on the ground in pain. After that the Spaniard had to come off the field and got replaced by Mateo Kovacic.
The game was intense from the start when Erling Haaland scored only 9 minutes into the match receiving a brilliant assist from the new Blues signing Savinho. But the lead didn’t last long because Riccardo Calafiori who made his first start for Arsenal scored an outstanding goal from outside the box to leave Ederson hopeless on saving it.
Arsenal went full pressure against the Blues in the first half and got another goal from Bukayo Saka’s assist for the Brazilian defender Gabriel in the 46th minute. When everyone thought that the first half is already done, Leandro Trossard received his second yellow card leaving the Gunners with 10 men in the pitch.
In the second half, Manchester City dominated most of the game with 88% ball possession with a lot of actions in the Arsenal’s half side but it was nearly impossible for them to find the net, until the 98th minute when John Stones smashed the ball it into David Raya’s goal.
The match ended with a draw, but none of the managers were happy with it, believing they deserved the full points. Manchester City, not only didn’t get 3 points, but they also lost their Ballon d’Or contender to an injury.
After the match, a lot of scans were made so they could figure out how long Rodri would be out and we finally got an update from David Ornstein. He reported that the Blues midfielder had suffered a serious injury after the challenge and could be out for the whole season. This report is having every Man City fan worried from the fact that Rodri is their main player for their success over the years.
Even Pep Guardiola had some words to the press about Rodri’s situation and the Spaniard says that the reason why Rodrigo left the pitch was because he felt something otherwise he would continue for more minutes on the pitch.
Now we still have to wait for more serious reports when the full scan of Rodri’s injury is out, but as for now, Pep Guardiola has to think about more possibilities on the best replacement for the Ballon d’Or and Euro winner Rodrigo.
The next challenge for Manchester City will be against Watford in the EFL Cup round of 16 and on the weekend they face Newcastle United in St. James Park.
