The Euro 2024 best player Rodrigo, has been injured horribly in the latest Manchester City Premier League match against Arsenal which ended 2-2. Rodri was left on the ground in the 19th minute after a challenge with Gunner’s midfielder Thomas Partey and he had to leave the match early because of the pain from the tackle.
His injury has been big news for all the fans around the world, and this shows how important the Spaniard is for Pep’s team. Being one of the main players on the team, Rodri was the key factor in the five Premier League titles in a row for the Citizens. He played almost every match in the last five years, and Man City’s win percentage in every match he starts increased from 62% to 74%.
He even was the key player for Spain’s triumph in the latest European competition which they won against England in the final 2-1, minutes before the extra time, and with his incredible performance during the tournament, he received the ‘Best Player of Euro 2024’ award.
Speaking to the media about Rodri’s injury, Pep Guardiola said that the midfielder got the worst outcome from his injury. He told the press that Rodri has already finished the surgery of the ACL and meniscus successfully but this season is over for him and he is expected to be back in the next 25/26 season.
Guardiola explained the reason why it would take so long and he said that most of the ACL surgeries take around eight to nine months to recover and after that, there will be muscular problems for him that are needed to take care of, so his return could take at least a year to catch up to his best form.
This topic has been going around with a lot of football experts saying that this could take more than a year. A great example is Liverpool’s captain Virgil van Dijk who was injured for 254 days in the 20/21 season. The Dutchman had a cruciate ligament tear and it went a very long time until he recovered and got back to his best.
The experts believe that even when Rodri starts to get better and plays matches for Manchester City, he won’t be in his best form to play every week in and out how he is used to for more than 9 seasons in La Liga and Premier League.
Now we wait and see how the progress of the player goes, and once he starts to get better and train with the team, we will see if his level will drop or he will continue to impress everyone like most of the time we see him play.
