Liverpool is getting for their second UEFA Champions League match against Bologna which will be played in Anfield on Wednesday. After an amazing run since the start of the season, Arne Slot boys will try to keep their great form alive with another win and aim for the top of the table against other European giants.
Recently, speaking to the media, the Dutch manager has given the Liverpool fans some bad news before the midweek match. The summer signing Federico Chiesa, won’t be available to play against Bologna due to an injury he received this week.
Slot explained that Chiesa came in training well on Monday, but today he had some problems and he doesn’t expect him to be fit against Bologna and it’s a big chance he will miss the next Premier League match against Crystal Palace.
He continued saying that it’s a pity for the team team and the player himself to miss an Anfield night especially in the Champions League against a Seria A team where Chiesa played his whole career.
Arne Slot then said that after he recovers from the injury, there will be a lot of chances to see the Italian in action but first we have to wait for him to get better. The good thing is that Liverpool’s boss believes that it’s not a big injury and his return time will take less compared to Harvey Elliott who got injured in the last international break and haven’t been returned to the training since then.
Lucky for Federico, Liverpool will have only two more games until the international break and there will be enough time for the winger to return for the match against Chelsea which will be played on 20 October. His return is expected to be on a perfect time due to the tough fixture the Reds have after the international duty.
After he finished speaking about Chiesa’s situation, Arne Slot had some good news on Diogo Jota who received a knock on his foot and missed two training sessions since the Wolves game. Liverpool’s boss explained that the Portuguese forward has already gone under two injury scans and it’s been revealed that there is no sign of injury, so he is expected to be part of the team on Wednesday.
Until now, the Reds have won 7 matches out of 8, but Slot believes that it’s still early to speak about the great form without playing the top Premier League teams like Manchester City and Arsenal.
