Alexis Mac Allister left the pitch early in Liverpool’s recent 1-0 win against Crystal Palace. The Argentinian picked up an injury minutes before half-time and had to be replaced with Dominik Szoboszlai.
With this win, Liverpool stays at the top of the table with 18 points in 7 matches. Arne Slot’s team has won six Premier League matches, the best run since the 20/21 season, in which the Reds won the first Premier League under Jurgen Klopp since 1990.
The triumph at Selhurst Park Stadium was important for the Reds due to the international break which starts next week. In this time, Arne Slot will have a lot of time to make plans for the busy fixture that awaits for them after the players are back from their national teams.
Liverpool’s victory had some bad news after two main players got injured during the match. Alexis Mac Allister, who received the injury early in the game, and Arne Slot have confirmed that his return date is unknown until the player goes through the medical process first.
He said that the Argentinian midfielder could have continued the match even in the second half, but the best decision was to keep him out because the injury could have worsened if he played more minutes.
The Dutch manager continued by saying that Liverpool‘s number ten had groin issues and it’s not confirmed yet that he could be available for Argentina’s World Championship qualifications matches starting from the next week.
Another injury came in the 77th minute against Crystal Palace which happened to Alisson Becker who was left on the ground in pain and couldn’t continue until the end so he had to be replaced by the third-choice goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros, who made his first debut for the Reds since joining them in 2019.
As Arne Slot confirmed, Alisson’s injury is much more serious than Mac Allister’s. The Brazilian goalkeeper had a muscle injury which can keep him out of the squad until the next international break in November.
Alisson won’t be available for Brazil’s matches for World Championship qualifiers and it’s not expected to feature in any of the matches during the tough schedule that awaits for the Reds. His replacement will be the Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who played a lot of matches last season, replacing Becker during the most important time of the season.
Arne Slot hopes for Mac Allister’s return after international duty, which would be great news for the team due to the qualities he has already shown since his first match in a Liverpool shirt.
