Liverpool’s number one goalkeeper Alisson Becker, left the pitch in pain in the 79th minute after he picked up an injury that started after the Champions League match against AC Milan.
The Brazilian goalkeeper had already missed two matches due to an injury but returned as in goal thinking that his condition got better. Playing only three matches since his last return, Alisson Becker is expected to be out for a much longer time compared to the last one.
After Alisson got substituted, Arne Slot replaced him with the Czech Republican goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros, who made his first debut for Liverpool due to Caoimhin Kelleher’s unavailability from an illness.
The Reds achieved victory in Selhurst Park Stadium, after an early goal from Diogo Jota in the 9th minute. The assist was provided by Cody Gakpo, who started in the left wing, leaving Luis Diaz on the bench.
After the match, Liverpool’s boss spoke to the media about Alisson’s injury and his situation, saying that he does not expect the keeper to be back after the international break. One positive outcome was the debut of the third-choice keeper because Slot feels that it’s nice to see every player on the team getting involved in the results.
Becker was once again crucial in Crystal Palace’s attacks, keeping a clean sheet for his team and saving four shots towards the goal. After the match, The Dutch manager confirmed that Alisson Becker’s injury is a serious one and he won’t be able to play again before the international break in November.
This situation of the Brazilian keeper will open the doors for Caoimhin Kelleher, who is expected to be the regular goalkeeper in the next games for Liverpool. Starting in only two matches since the start of the season, the Irishman had amazing performances with only one goal conceded against West Ham in the 5-1 win in Carabao Cup.
Caoimhin Kelleher was found in a situation like this even in the past season under Jurgen Klopp, playing the majority of the matches due to another injury of Alisson. His performances were incredibly good during the whole season, making Alisson’s absence invisible most of the times.
With this win, Liverpool stays at the top of the table with 18 points in 7 matches, losing only one to Nottingham Forest in Anfield. Behind the first place, comes Manchester City with 17 points after winning 3-2 against Fulham.
Arsenal comes third leveled with Pep Guardiola’s team, after the 3-1 win against Southampton, in which the Gunners conceded first but found the net later with goals from Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, and Bukayo Saka.
Arne Slot’s next challenge comes on 20 October after the international break, in which Liverpool faces Chelsea in Anfield.
