Liverpool failed to achieve triumph in St. James Park after drawing against Newcastle due to the error by Caoimhin Kelleher, who let the Magpies’s defender, Fabian Schar, equalize in the dying moment of the game.
Newcastle started the match better than the Reds, scoring the opener in the 35th minute after an unbelievably rapid strike from Alexander Isak who left Kelleher with no hopes of saving that.
The first half was poor for Arne Slot’s side, but they entered the second half better, equalizing the score in the 50th minute from Curtis Jones’s sensational strike, assisted by Mohamed Salah with the outside of the foot.
The game got more intense when Anthony Gordon made a great dribble against Joe Gomez to put his team into the lead once again in the 62nd minute, but Mohamed Salah’s answer didn’t take long. The Egyptian made it 2-2 in the 68th minute after receiving an assist from Trent Alexander-Arnold who entered the pitch just one minute before.
As the match continued, Mohamed Salah took the lead for Liverpool in the 83rd minute, receiving once again another assist from Trent.
When everyone thought that Liverpool was leaving St. James Park with three points in their bank, Fabian Schar took advantage of Caoimhin Kelleher’s mistake, who thought that the ball was going out after the cross from Bruno Guimarães.
Receiving one point after the 3-3 result, Liverpool continues to stay at the top of the league with 35 points, seven more than Chelsea and Arsenal, who both achieved victory tonight.
One of the most controversial moments of tonight’s clash between Newcastle and Liverpool was the tackle on Luis Diaz inside the opponent’s box, who got grabbed by a Newcastle player in the shirt to prevent him from scoring.
The other one was the tackle on Mohamed Salah inside Newcastle’s box, which made the Egyptian fall to the ground but the referee decided that it was not a foul.
The late drama at St. James Park raised the anger of Liverpool fans who think that both of the tackles should have been a penalty. During the final minutes of the match, Alexis Mac Allister’s shot went to the hand of Newcastle’s player, but once again it was not seen as a handball by the referee.
Down below you can see Alexis Mac Allister’s shot which went to Newcastle’s player, in which most of the Liverpool fans think that the referee’s decision was wrong and Liverpool should at least have been awarded one penalty. You can see the video from @Footballfan0088:
