Ryan Gravenberch has started the new 24/25 season in the best way possible under the new Liverpool manager Arne Slot. Being one of the key players for the Reds, the 22-year-old midfielder has shown a major improvement, playing almost every match for Liverpool except in the 5-1 win against West Ham in EFL Cup, in which Slot decided to let him rest.
Until now, Gravenberch has received two ‘Man of the Match’ awards, the first one came against AC Milan in which the Reds won 3-1 in San Siro and the second one came in the last 2-1 win against Wolves in the Premier League. His understanding of the game, alongside Dominik Szoboslzai and Alexis Mac Allister is working perfectly, dominating the midfield most of the games they played together.
Ryan Gravenberch has become a main player in Arne Slot’s tactics, compared to the last season when he joined Liverpool. Under Jurgen Klopp, the Dutchman started in only 12 games in the Premier League and most of the times Wataru Endo would take his place as a starter.
Even Liverpool’s board was not convinced enough by the player to be the main player in the defending midfielder position, so they tried to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, but the move was later rejected because the Spaniard wanted to keep his career going in his boyhood club.
Speaking about his improvement, Ryan feels that he is the same player who we saw playing in the last season for the Reds. He explained that sometimes it’s tough for him to fit into the system when he has less contact with the ball during the match, but the arrival of Arne Slot, and his understanding of Gravenberch’s football, has made things easier for him.
He continued saying that the trust of Slot into the midfielder, starting him since the first match has made him more focused and confident for the English football. Gravenberch also showed his motivation to win almost every trophy in all competitions, but he feels that is still early, but the main thing for the team is to always learn from the mistakes during the tough fixtures so they can get better.
The next match for Liverpool will be against the Serie A side Bologna, which will be played in Anfield for the second round of the UEFA Champions League. The match will be played on Wednesday at 20:00 UK Time and the Reds will try to get another win to keep their amazing form alive.
