Liverpool is getting ready to face Serie A side Bologna in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since August 2021. The match will be played in Anfield on Wednesday and the Reds will try for to achieve another triumph in their own stadium.
Liverpool has won 7 out of 8 matches since the beginning of the new 24/25 season under their new Dutch manager Arne Slot and this match will be a tough one for the Italian side based on their recent results.
Vincenzo Italiano’s team has started the season really poor compared to last season when his team finished 5th in the league and got a spot to compete in the Champions League. Until now, Bologna has won only one out of six Serie A games and the win came against Monza with a result of 2-1.
In the other five matches, Italiano’s boys achieved four draws and one 3-0 loss against Napoli, which placed them in the 13th spot in the Serie A. On the other hand, the first Champions League match for Bologna was against Shakhtar Donetsk which ended 0-0 and now the real challenge against a top team awaits for Bologna. The game against Liverpool marks Bologna’s first away game in the Champions League competition since 1960.
It’s expected that Vincenzo Italiano will make some changes to face Liverpool in Anfield due to some injuries in the team. It’s reported that the summer signing from AC Milan Tommaso Pobega, won’t be available because he suffers from a strained collateral ligament and he will be on the sideline waiting for his team to get the best outcome against the Reds.
The Italian media have reported that Italiano will make the perfect team to compete against a giant club like Liverpool, but on the other hand, Arne Slot’s boys already have a target of winning every trophy so this will be a very tough goal for the Italian manager to achieve. This is how Bologna’s squad to travel to Anfield will look like:
Goalkeepers: Łukasz Skorupski, Nicola Bagnolini, Federico Ravaglia.
Defenders: Nicolo Casale, Tommaso Carazza, Martin Erlic, Jhon Lucumi, Charalampos Lykogiannis, Juan Miranda, Stefan Posch, Sam Beukema.
Midfielders: Remo Freuler, Emil Holm, Nikola Moro, Kacper Urbanski, Michel Aebischer.
Attackers: Samuel Iling Junior, Dan Ndoye, Jens Odgaard, Riccardo Orsolini, Thijs Dallinga, Santiago Castro.
The match will start at 20:00 UK Time on Wednesday.
