Since arriving at the club this summer, Federico Chiesa had the chance to play in a Liverpool shirt only twice, coming on from the bench late during the game. But this is about to change in the next Liverpool match in the round of 16 of Carabao Cup against West Ham which will be played in Anfield.
Until now, Federico Chiesa made his Premier League debut in the recent 3-0 win against Bournemouth, where he replaced Darwin Nunez and played more than 20 minutes. His first debut for Liverpool happened in the first match of the Champions League campaign against AC Milan where the Reds won 3-1, but unfortunately, he only had the chance to play in the extra time.
Arne Slot has already explained why Federico Chiesa was not able to start in any of the matches and the reason was that he is not fully fit yet due to the transfer and he didn’t play in the pre-season with Juventus before leaving the club. Speaking to the press recently, Arne Slot has given the green light to the Italian winger saying that he can start in his opinion.
The Reds fans have been waiting to see the magic of Chiesa since his arrival at the club in August and it seems that their wish is about to come true.
The starting lineup in the Carabao Cup first match will be different from the last win in Anfield. Players like Conor Bradley and Curtis Jones who didn’t play the majority of the matches this season, are expected to feature in the starting XI leaving some of the key players on the bench.
The last season’s signing, Wataru Endo who was one of the main players during Jurgen Klopp’s farewell season, could replace one of the midfield trio created by Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Even Jarell Quansah who started only in the first match of Premier League against Ipswich Town could be replacing Ibrahima Konate tonight and his performance could decide Arne Slot plans for him during the whole season.
Alisson Becker and Harvey Elliott won’t be part of the squad for the first Liverpool EFL Cup match due to their injuries. The Brazilian goalkeeper is expected to return for the next Premier League match against Wolves, and his replacement for tonight will be Caoimhin Kelleher who had an amazing performance against Bournemouth, making a clean sheet in his first start.
On the other hand, Harvey Elliott’s recovery will take a bit more time and he is expected to be back in the first weeks of October.
