Liverpool returned from the international break with another win where Arne Slot boys once again showed that they are serious about the Premier League title after defeating Chelsea 2-1 with the goals of Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones.
With this win, the Reds are placed still at the top of the table with 21 points, after winning seven out of eight matches in the league.
After the match, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk spoke to the media about his current contract situation and his future at the Merseyside club. For the moment, three of the Reds main players like Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are on the edge of being free players in the summer due to the end of the contracts.
The Dutch defender has confirmed that he started the talks with the board on extending the contract with the Reds, but it’s still yet to be revealed if the player will stay at the club after the summer of 2025.
Van Dijk continued by saying that he is fully focused on Liverpool and that winning matches is the only important thing at the moment. He said that he has no idea what the future will bring but the discussions with the club has already started.
The Dutchman feels very good physically and mentally which shows that he wants to go for all the trophies after failing to win the league in the last season under the legendary German manager Jurgen Klopp.
The defender remains the key player under the newly appointed manager, starting in every Premier League match while conceding only three goals in eight matches.
Speaking to the media about the contract situations after the Chelsea win, Arne Slot said that his players are focused on their job even though a lot of European giants are interested in signing them. Liverpool‘s boss continued saying that Virgil, Mo, and Trent are not disturbed which tells how prepared the guys are mentally.
Liverpool’s next challenge will be against RB Leipzig on Wednesday in the Champions League after a perfect run of two wins in two games in the competition. The Reds for the moment are placed fifth in the new UEFA Champions League table, aiming for another win away from home.
