Liverpool’s striker Darwin Nunez, has returned in training today ahead UEFA Champions League match against Bologna. The Uruguayan was not in the squad for the last Premier League match against Wolves in which the Reds won 2-1 due to an illness but now he has returned and we hope to see a goal from him in the mid week.
The triumph in Molineux Stadium was not an easy one for Arne Slot’s boys. Ibrahima Konate scored the opener with a header from Diogo Jota’s assist, but later they conceded from a mistake by Alisson Becker and Konate for not having a misunderstanding in a crucial moment when a Wolves player was putting pressure on the opponent’s box to set Rayan Ait-Nouri for the equalizer.
Only 5 minutes later, Diogo Jota was fouled in the opponent’s box and the referee gave a penalty for Liverpool. Mohamed Salah converted it into a goal which placed Liverpool top of the league with only one point more than the second and the third place.
For the moment, Darwin Nunez is not seen as the main striker in Arne Slot’s plans, starting in only one Premier League match in the 3-0 win against Bournemouth in which he scored an amazing goal from a tough position that a lot of players would even think of shooting in that time.
La Pantera’s second start of the season came in the 5-1 Carabao Cup win against West Ham, playing the full 90 minutes and making one assist toward Cody Gakpo, but failed to find the net.
Liverpool’s attacking depth is one of the strongest in the world for the moment and Darwin Nunez is finding it difficult to be the key player for the opposition. The attacking trio created by Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz is not disappointing the Dutch boss, so players like Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and the new summer signing Federico Chiesa will have to work hard and make great performances to make Arne Slot change his mind.
Chiesa who made his debut against AC Milan and played his first Premier League match against Bournemouth coming from the bench in the 59th minute, has surprised Slot and we expect to see him feature more in the next matches for Liverpool.
In today’s training, all the players were present except Harvey Elliott who is yet to recover from a fractured foot and his return date is expected to be the firsts weeks of October.
Liverpool now faces Bologna in the second match of the Champions League campaign and on the weekend they travel to London for the match against Crystal Palace.
