The Reds have achieved another victory in the Premier League by beating Wolves 2-1 in Molineux Stadium. With this win, Liverpool goes to the top of the table with 15 points, leaving Manchester City and Arsenal behind with only one point less.
The opening goal was scored by Ibrahima Konate in the last minutes of the first half, receiving an incredible cross by Diogo Jota to give his team the lead with a header. This was the first goal of the Premier League for the Frenchman, but not his only goal scored since the start of the season. He also scored in the 3-1 win against AC Milan in UEFA Champions League.
The second half didn’t start well for Arne Slot’s team, conceding a goal in the 56th minute scored by Rayan Ait-Nouri after a horrible mistake from the scorer of the first goal, Ibrahima Konate.
The leveler did not last much because Mohamed Salah had other plans as he gave his team the lead from the penalty spot in the 61st minute.
Arne Slot’s team performance was not the best one compared to the recent matches where they dominated the whole game, but it’s the most important one since the start of the season. With this win, Liverpool becomes the only Premier League team to win five matches in the first six games of the season.
Mohamed Salah’s goal makes him the 5th best goal scorer in the Premier League and the second-best goal scorer in his team with 4 goals and 4 assists. The Egyptian King is only one goal behind his teammate Luis Diaz, who until now has scored 5 goals and provided one assist, placing himself in the third position behind Cole Palmer who scored four goals in 20 minutes in Chelsea’s 4-2 win against Brighton.
In first place comes Manchester City’s goal machine Erling Haaland, who has scored 10 goals, the most goals in the top five European Leagues. But today, he couldn’t help his team achieve victory in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United.
With 15 points in the league, the next challenge for Liverpool will be against Bologna in the Champions League campaign which will be played at Anfield on Wednesday at 20:00 UK Time.
